Mosaika

National Capital commission

2010 | Ottawa

Mosaika transformed Canada's iconic parliament buildings and grounds with light and images highlighting the diversity of Canadian voices in the cityscape.

Moment Factory was invited by the National Capital Commission to create a permanent 30 minute show using the parliament buildings as a beacon that would shine for local and international tourists during Canada’s 2010 Olympic year and beyond.

Using light, sound, special effects and animated content, Moment Factory enabled the birthplace of Canada’s democracy to tell the story of country’s identity and history in a spectacular, contemporary way. Due to the destination’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the audiovisual system needed to be installed and removed daily, so Moment Factory designed a groundbreaking mobile solution that could easily be driven onsite and calibrated each evening, before being driven back to a secure off-site location for safekeeping.

As a standard-bearer of democratic participation, citizens from all cultures and corners of the country were invited via an online portal to submit their selfie videos saying what they love most about their country—these were formatted into placeholders within each night’s show.

Designed to drive sustained nighttime visitorship into the often sleepy city center, the nightly show consistently ranked #1 or #2 on TripAdvisor every summer for over 10 years since its launch in 2010.
