Mission: Mars and DALL-E
At the Museum of Science, Boston, a versatile interactive and immersive gallery expands the possibilities for experiential learning.
The Museum of Science, Boston’s Immersive Gallery — a programmable “black box” space that can be endlessly transformed with different thematic experiences — marks MOS’s third collaboration with Moment Factory.
Equipped with projection mapping and interactive tracking technologies refined over two decades of the studio’s in-house R&D, the Museum’s Immersive Gallery debuted with two multisensory educational experiences:
Mission: Mars transports visitors to the red planet in search of evidence of past water, using infrared tools to record their findings.
Dall-E invites guests to playfully explore the “art” of artificial intelligence, with Lidar tracking enabling collective image creation.
Experiences can stand alone or complement adjacent exhibitions, making complex topics accessible through short interactive moments. Mission: Mars and DALL-E are part of a growing library of experiences at the Museum, with the next addition slated for summer 2024.
Also serving as an in-house laboratory, the Immersive Gallery allows MOS to experiment with innovative strategies for engaging audiences in new ways. Adapting to various experiences, the multi-use space showcases the Museum’s forward-thinking approaches to science education to prospective partners and donors.
