Lumina Borealis

Rediscovering the beauty of Canadian winter

2016 - Kingston

By reviving the joy of all things ‘winter’, Lumina Borealis gives Fort Henry a new story to tell.

What do we remember most about playing outside in winter? Snowball fights, the scent of a woodstove burning, or is it a walk through a snow-covered forest? These memories and more inspired the creation of Lumina Borealis, a winter night walk at historic Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario. Created for the St. Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC), it is the first Lumina night walk created for the winter season.

Along an enchanted trail, visitors warm up by a magical storytelling fire, ignite the Northern Lights with a song, and meet mysterious creatures with playful surprises at every turn. Our most participatory Lumina night walk to date, once visitors’ hearts are warmed to winter’s beauty, the experience culminates in a large-scale interactive game that unlocks winter’s secrets and rewards players with a projection-mapped show.

Passionate about immersive storytelling, the SLPC wanted to enhance their winter programming by transforming Fort Henry into a frosty wonderland. By reviving the joy of all things ‘winter’, Lumina Borealis gives Fort Henry a new story to tell.
