Nova Lumina

AN ENCHANTED NIGHT WALK BY THE SEA

2016 - Chandler

An immersive and interactive experience that takes us closer to the stars.

  • DARC Awards | Best Landscape Lighting Scheme, 2017

Seeking a new tourism offering for the region, the Corporation de développement économique du territoire du Rocher-Percé invited us to create a multimedia experience in Chandler, Gaspésie. The result, Nova Lumina, is a 1.5 km night walk by the sea.

Taking full advantage of the location’s natural setting, we crafted an experience that rests on three fundamental principles: multimedia effects, a strong narrative and an interactive component. The concept is the following: this summer, for a mysterious reason, stars have fallen from the sky into the sea, covering the beaches with light as they wash ashore. When visitors arrive, they receive an interactive walking stick and begin their quest. They must carry the light of a fallen star along the way and eventually return it to its home in the night sky.

In addition to following this story through the forest at night, spectators actively participate as actors themselves. The narrative is enhanced by the interactive component, which in turn serves to augment the feeling of immersion. The walking stick literally “connects” visitors to the place, the story and the multimedia installations, reacting as one approaches the various installations, projections and visual effects zones. Total immersion is accomplished by the addition of an original musical score.

Nova Lumina is part of a series of night walks created by Moment Factory. Each night walk is inspired by local culture and the region’s iconic landscapes. The story, the characters who bring it to life, the scenography, and the site’s natural charm make each destination unique.
