“My father left me with a list of instructions before he passed, ‘Put me in a pine box next to my mother and father. Have a small memorial for close friends and family in Los Angeles…and if you want a public event, do it in Montreal’.”

-Adam Cohen

November 6th in Montreal, on the one-year anniversary of his passing, Leonard Cohen fans will gather for a memorial tribute to the late poet and musician. An impressive list of artists have already signed on to do covers of Cohen’s works including Cœur de pirate, Elvis Costello, Lana Del Rey, Feist, Philip Glass, k.d. lang, Bettye LaVette, Courtney Love, Damien Rice, Seth Rogen, Ron Sexsmith, Sting, Patrick Watson, Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites of The Lumineers, Adam Cohen, and more to be announced.

Adam Cohen, singer-songwriter and son of Leonard Cohen, assembled a core group of creators to work on the one-night-only production. Creative Director Tarik Mikou explains, “We were honoured to get the call from Adam Cohen. Our projects take us around the world, but Moment Factory is a proudly ‘born and raised’ Montreal studio.” Producer Daniel Jean adds, “And few experiences could feel more at home in ‘Montreal’ than a tribute to the late Leonard Cohen.”

The Moment Factory contingent focused on set design and some of the visual content. Our goal is always to visually amplify the music, to bring audiences closer, and to create a deeper connection through the experience. The tribute to Cohen required a creative approach that would speak to the Canadian icon’s style: reserved but soulful.

As yet another facet of Cohen’s legacy, proceeds from the memorial tribute will go to the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Conseil des arts de Montréal to support artists and their development.
