Foresta Lumina wins Japan Media Arts Festival’s Excellence Award

March 16, 2018

This week, Moment Factory was honoured to learn that one of our signature projects has been singled out for international recognition.

We’re thrilled to announce that Foresta Lumina won the Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival, an annual event celebrating creativity and artistry in a broad range of media fields.

Our inaugural multimedia night walk was awarded the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Prize in the Entertainment Division. The annual Japan Media Arts Festival is organized by the Government of Japan’s Agency of Cultural Affairs. It was created to promote creativity in media arts by recognizing innovative talent. Video and photos from Foresta Lumina will join this year’s annual exhibition of award-winning projects.

A walking trail through a forest of light and sound that became a tourist destination.

Foresta Lumina is an immersive night walk that uses multimedia to cast an aura that absorbs visitors into its storytelling magic. Created in Coaticook, Canada, it seamlessly blends light, interactive elements and projection mapping to shape an experience tailor-made to enhance the site’s unique natural landscape and ambience. Since developing this format in 2014, there’s been demand for Lumina experiences around the world.

A first Lumina experience outside Canada.

The award’s timing couldn’t be better. Our Tokyo office opened about a year ago to create a launchpad for international collaboration, and this spring we will debut the first-ever Lumina experience created outside of Canada. On April 1, 2018, the Island Lumina night walk opens on Iojima Island in Nagasaki, Japan. Island Lumina takes visitors on a twilight journey following Yura, a young girl on an adventurous quest to find an enchanted jewel. We can’t wait to share it with the world.
