Cymatics Workshop

January, 2018

The cymatics setup was pretty easy, really. With some speakers, plastic film, myriad coloured powders, liquids and a camera we were up and running. We used exotic substances like lypocodium powder (plant spores), powdered pigment, acrylic paint of various colours and frozen vodka to create the dizzying colour mixtures and textures you see below. The tough part was getting the perfect consistency and colour mixture for our various substances. We tried a lot of combinations, and found that the simpler the better. Another key element was getting the right lighting combined with the right frequencies of vibration to create the cool patterns we’ve seen on the web.

(Oh, and the unexpected cleanup required to start over with a new set of colours. That was a major pain).

As we got more into it, we started getting those everything is connected, celestial harmony kinda feels. Watching the perfectly analog physical coupling of sound and matter was a seriously spiritual experience. And when we slowed down the footage… No words can describe… It’s like peering into the fabric of the universe, into pure energy and vibration.

We generated 20 hours of psychedelic footage that will definitely come in handy on future projects. Who knows, maybe the next concert tour we do will be an insane cymatics extravaganza! Would be fun 😉

Here is a selection of projects that illustrate what we can create together.
