Moment Factory and the National Geographic Society collaborated to reimagine Joel Sartore’s Photo Ark as a touring, multi-room immersive experience, called Photo Ark: Animals of Earth. The exhibition debuted at the Museum of Exploration in Washington, D.C., where the studio also contributed two educational experiences in its Geoverse immersive room and an outdoor nighttime experience.
Leading the creative and technical direction, the studio oversaw the narrative, scenography, lighting, music, and sound design of the exhibition, which showcases Sartore’s decades-long mission to document every species in human care around the world.
Spanning six zones, Animals of Earth presents more than 1,000 species featured in the Photo Ark in a variety of formats, including wall-to-wall projections of photo grids and oversized video portraits. Balancing contemplation with active participation, the experience features a massive video cube, a dynamic data-driven space, a behind-the-scenes look at Sartore’s process, and interactive stations by NeoPangea. In a key participatory moment, visitors are immersed in nature’s vibrant colors and navigate an interactive floor exploring how to take action in support of at-risk species.
